Red handmade brick laid in Flemish bond over a traditional water table. Matching the original brick during restoration took three months. All systems replaced during the 1999-2001 restoration: plumbing, electrical, custom windows throughout, Georgian millwork drawn and built room by room. Original 1916 elements intact: all seven carved mantels, oak floors, leaded sidelights, arched fanlights over six-panel doors, solid-wood doors, brass key plates.
Drawing room anchors the main floor -- nearly forty feet long with a Federal-style carved mantel, dark marble surround, coffered paneled ceiling, arched built-in bookcases, and French doors to the rear brick terrace. Sitting room with spiral staircase and Delft tile fireplace. Formal dining room with fireplace, original 1916 frontispiece, and arched shell cabinets. Library with floor-to-ceiling shelving and rolling ladder.
Kitchen with reclaimed heart-pine floors, custom white Shaker cabinetry, glass-front display cabinets, black granite counters, professional stainless range with hood, full-size stainless refrigerator, custom pull-out pantry, kitchen desk, and breakfast sitting area with chinoiserie toile wallpaper. Butler's pantry with farm sink and butcher block counter.
Primary suite occupies the full depth of the first floor. Fireplace with paneled wainscoting and arched niches. Two separate dressing rooms, each with built-in storage: one with a glass-front arched wardrobe closet, the other with a walk-in closet and direct access to the bath. Master bath with chandelier, arched mirror, marble counters, Jacuzzi tub, stone-tile walk-in shower with dual rain heads, and French doors to the grounds.
Three second-floor bedrooms, each with a fireplace, two additional Jacuzzi tubs, and balcony access. 3 full bathrooms. Large office/den on the second floor with direct access to spiral staircase.
Stone-walled four-room basement under approximately half the house -- partially developed, climate-controlled, with storage cabinets, shelving, refrigerator, upright freezer, and large wine rack. Interior and exterior access.
Saltwater pool in brick-walled garden. Two regulation-size tennis courts with lighting (courts need resurfacing). Brick terrace behind the house, accessed from both the dining room and the drawing room, seats a large group for outdoor dining. Balcony off two second-floor bedrooms overlooks the tennis courts and rear property.
Grounds include mature longleaf pines, three American plane trees (sycamores) planted in 1959, camellia garden beside the front entry circle, Grandiflora magnolias, dogwoods, holly trees, azaleas, dwarf nandinas, a signature autumnalis tree, and iris specimens in defined planting beds. Children's playhouse (''The Wee Cottage'') in the rear yard beside a well house sheltering the in-ground well and storage tank, which supplies an extensive irrigation system through the yard and planting beds and provides water for the pool. County water and sewer.
Garran Hill is the original 1916 estate at the center of Hollycrest -- the neighborhood takes its name from this house. See History for the full provenance of Walter Hines Page, the Princess Mother of Thailand, and over a century of stewardship. Village of Pinehurst Historic Foundation recognition. Pinehurst ETJ. County taxes, Pinehurst address.
